Electric Free Canada Day

What a better way to celebrate Canada Day than to do it electric free!

It seemed kind of easy, considering we were gone from 9:30 in the morning to 11:30 at night. However, we ensured we made food for lunch, the previous day, so as to not use other people's electricity (coffee not included, of course). We've had one other EFD since blogging as well. We picked a fine time to do EFD's. In the heat of the summer with no fans or air conditioning allowed! That's alright though. We could always sleep in the bottom level of our house if it gets too hot. For those who don't have this luxury, tenting out at the beach might be an option. :)

Another great thing about having EFD is that it extends into the rest of my week. I find that I'm more aware of the lights being turned on at all. I'm the type to always turn the lights off after leaving a room. This helps me not feel the need to turn the lights on in the first place. For the sake of some minor darkness, I can find my way around just fine.

I've thought of calling this day. "Electric Free 'Family' Day." We really find ourselves watching our kids, playing on the floor with them more, chatting with them more. We've been the type of parents to not feel like we've "missed" our kids growing up. Having a SAHP helps. When you are the one to spend time with your kids throughout their whole childhood, you will never have this feeling of "missing it". Sure, you may look at them and realize how "big" they are one day. But, you will never regret working too hard or being too "busy" if you spend quality time with your family each day. Unfortunately, even some SAHP's become too busy to just "play" with their kids. Yet, taking out days like this EFD and other great ideas, really help in keeping your family alive!

I really enjoy getting off my computer, off my phone, away from the kitchen (*wink*) and spending real quality time with my family without the pull toward these things. EFD is just another one of those ways to do "family". Of course, we don't need a whole day of EFD to spend quality time with our kids. This is just the longer version of what I need to remember to do each and every day.
