Well, our journey continues with us now living in Guelph, Ontario. I love it here. So many like-minded people... if only I can find them!! Ha!! I see them all at the local food festivals, the Waldorf festivals and the like... Just can't seem to "hang" with any of them yet. I'm used to finding my way through the social mazes of a new city. I'm sure to find some people who are much like me... socially crazy with a bit of laziness on the side. Ha!!
We're moving into our new home soon... a bit of reno work happening BEFORE we move in this time. Imagine! I'm already working on the garden though. Have rasberries, strawberries, zucchini, and different types of squashes planted. I'm going to buy some tomato seedlings and some carrots but I'm a bit behind season... hoping mother nature cooperates with my tardiness.
I'm also building a pond, setting up a 200 gallon rain barrel and moving towards a more sustainable water source for my home. I'm LOVING the permaculture designs I've read about and visited while in Nova Scotia. One designer really inspired me. I'll have to share his vision some day. For now, My idea is to set up the rain barrel for various activities around the yard and have it run into the garden gently. THEN, I'll have the pond run into the garden and if there's any drought in my area... no problem!!
I'll also be taking out the drain under the kitchen sink and using the water to flush the toilet - don't worry visitors, there'll still be plumbing for you when you visit (if you so choose).
I'm presently reading a few books about this amazing project:
1. Food Not Lawns - still on chapter one and already it inspires me.
2 . Ecological Gardening
3. Organic Gardening for Dummies. *wink*
This last one is an essential for me. I have dreams and vision but no skill. I'm working on it and by the time these books are finished and this first summer is past, I hope to have my feet as wet and dirty as possible!
Well, that's a short stint into my life right now. It's a bit quiet around here lately. I suppose the topic as of late is not such a popular one. Once medical science comes around to realizing the beauty and connection of intestinal health and social ability within our children, I think this topic might just be a bit more talked about. Here's hoping.

Haha!! Correction... The 'second' summer I start an organic garden.
I tried once before. Then the squirrels ate my corn seeds and the bugs ate all the lettuce.... I gave up pretty quickly after that. I did manage to keep my organic basil though. :D
