Saw S's Speech Therapist Yesterday...

...and she doesn't see the need to see him anymore!!!! YAY!!!

She even made the comment, "I've never seen a kid do this particular excercise as well as S." I'm so floored I can't even tell you. This, from a boy who meassured on the 9th percentile for verbal IQ only less than a year ago. Did you see that?!? NINTH PERCENTILE!!! I was devastated at his IQ results last year. He measured a year and a half ahead on one particular, nonverbal IQ. Yet the rest were mostly below the tenth percentile.

What I CAN'T wait for... is for the re-evaluation coming up in May. The more I read about Autism, the more the same literature comes up: Autism is a life-long diagnosis and S will be this way for the rest of his life.

This medical community dismisses the biomedical approach to recovering Autistic Kids and they dismiss that diet has much, if anything, to do with anything. It angers me, the more and more I see S get better without ANY BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTION WHATSOEVER!!!

That's right. With JUST diet, I took my son from Autistic to non. I am SOOOO glad I did not put my son through the behavioural intervention they would have him prescribe to. Now... I can look them in the eye and SHOW them a human being who recovered without their "mandatory" and "if-you-don't-do-it-our-way-he-will-stay-this-way" approach to helping these kids on the Autism Spectrum. Ugh. It maddens me.

We went through hell and back this last year. The fight to recover our son from the self-absorbed, socially-withdrawn hole he was turning into has been MORE than worth it. Although he was a happy kid who would smile at the drop of a coin. Although anyone who knew him would hear his attempts at communicating with short answers and a mere yes or no, they might not see the "depth" at which his social communication was so worrisome... until, of course, they actually watched long enough to see a child his age try to "talk" with him. :(

I know now that the older my son became, the less and less he was able to form healthy friendships. Even his own grandparents felt that although they felt a reciprocal relationship with his other two siblings, the bond simply wasn't there with S. He was in the room. He would respond as he was taught. Yet, he would never give you any impression that he was "into" you. I saw it too. I definitely felt it.

But not anymore.

I can't recommend elimination diets enough for these kids. JUST to prove to yourself that there's something not right with their guts!! If you have a son or daughter who has any A-issues, elimination diet is the place to start. Don't take my word for it. Go do some research yourself. There are UMPTEEN medical journals that have empirically documented the abnormal biomedical findings in children with autism. Why isn't our medical "professionals" telling more people about this!?!?

I haven't met ONE person, that's right, not ONE person who put their child on an elimination diet and didn't find that it helped tremendously or even minimized the temper tantrums on some of these kids, and the sleep issues! Why put these kids through 40-hour weeks of behavioural intervention without FIRST trying or at THE SAME TIME trying elimination diets and biomedical intervention. How much MORE might these children benefit from this medical community's outdated sanctions. Science is moving ahead of this Autism Medical Community and it's the families who are suffering for it.

Please spread the word. What we've had to do in this last year was a sacrifice, yes! But, S deserved it. His future spouse deserves it. His children deserve it.

So does your child.
