I used to be all for vaccinations. I screamed anti-anti-vaccination and guffawed at those who resisted the pediatrician's indignation for those parents who would not protect their children through preventable disease!
I've heard it said for years... I keep hearing it now: those who live in fear that they will never forgive themselves if something happened to their child and they could have done something to prevent it.
I get it. I really, honestly, get it. If something happened to my kid now, I'd feel the same guilt and never forgive myself. But all pros and cons have got to be weighed VERY carefully.
This will be a short post. I have much to say and so little time (as you can see with my lack of blogging). But, I've got to get the word out.
This comes from the INSERT of the vaccination that you might get in the next couple of days:
"Pregnancy:
Pregnancy Category C: Animal reproduction studies have not been conducted with Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine or AFLURIA. It is also not known whether these vaccines can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman or can affect reproduction capacity. Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed.
8.3 Nursing Mothers:
Neither Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine nor AFLURIA has been evaluated in nursing mothers. It is not known whether Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine or AFLURIA is excreted in human milk. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine is administered to a nursing woman.
8.4 Pediatric Use
Neither Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine nor AFLURIA has been evaluated in children. Safety and effectiveness in the pediatric population have not been established."
This is not from some heretical natural guru. This is straight from the horse's mouth my friend. Here's the website so you can see for yourself:
http://www.fda.gov/downloads/BiologicsBloodVaccines/Vaccines/ApprovedPro...
This is a general overlay that they are telling us, despite the above mention:
Influenza vaccines, both seasonal and the recently licensed Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 monovalent vaccines, are not contraindicated for use in pregnancy. As with many other vaccine products, the manufacturers did not conduct clinical studies specifically to evaluate the influenza vaccines in pregnant women prior to approval of these vaccines. Therefore, the pregnancy section of the prescribing information for the licensed influenza vaccines carry either a Category B or C and allows influenza vaccines to be given to pregnant women if there is a determination that the vaccine is clearly needed, as recommended by the ACIP."
Did you catch that last part??
BECAUSE they just don't know?? Because they don't know, they issue a Category B or C , which allows influenza vaccines to be given to pregnant women *IF* there is a determination that the vaccine is clearly needed, as recommended by the ACIP."??
Clearly needed. Hmmm...
Lets talk about this clearly needed-ness. Not unlike any other pregnant woman with any other type of scare, pregnant women are hospitalized sooner and faster than most other members of the population (babies aside). So, are they using this hospitalization statistic to determine that pregnant women are, indeed, CLEARLY in need of this vaccination?
What about the fetus? Clearly, we have no idea.
Well, I will say this... read the insert for yourself.
If you DO decide to get this vaccination, do not get the vaccination with mercury, do not receive the vaccination within one month's time to any other vaccination, and if you have low immunity, please do not get this vaccination. Not for yourself, your family and especially not your young children.

Thank you for this. Our
Thank you for this. Our family has decided to stay away from this vaccine like the plague, way too risky as far as we're concerned.
hi Dawna, I appreciate your
hi Dawna, I appreciate your hesitations, however we'd all have polio and many more major illnesses, if it weren't for vaccinations. I don't deny there are risks and unknowns with this vaccination, I'm concerned too, but I suppose in my view, the risks are higher in not getting it then getting it! I also wouldn't want to be responsible for discouraging someone from getting it who becomes seriously ill or dies :(. Likewise, being responsible for transmitting the disease to someone with a serious end result.

Something to add to the
Something to add to the vaccine debate and decision --- From my research re: smallpox (late 1800's-early 1900's) and polio (mid-1950's), these plagues disappeared simultaneously in countries which rejected vaccination as well as those which implemented it. In England and Wales between 1850 and 1940, deaths from diphtheria, measles, scarlet fever and whooping cough declined by 90%. The vaccine available for these started in the early 1940's, 50's and 60's with none provided for scarlet fever, yet it disappeared on its own, as did cholera, bubonic plague, yellow fever, without the assistance of mass immunization.
I think it is awesome that
I think it is awesome that you have based your decision on research that you are comfortable with.
There is so much unknown at this time with this strain of the flu and the vaccinations.
Each one of us has to do what is right for our families.
Stay healthy friend!
Great job spreading this info
Great job spreading this info as it does not seem to be publicized. I watched some interesting footage of previous experiences with the swine flu vaccine and neurological difficulties. Personally I am amazed at the level of concern and fear there is in North America - none of it here in Europe!
I should clarify - the level
I should clarify - the level of fear about becoming infected with H1N1...
