My FOUR year old can read!!

You know, it just goes to prove that you don't need to do much for your child to learn to read early. My son is reading 4 letter words from a book and reading some sentences together. He is not reading fluently. Just enough that he would be considered a "reader".

A Response to Thanksgiving being the worst of all holidays.

Interesting, this "worst of all holidays". I highly doubt that Thanksgiving, in this culture or others, would today be celebrated for the arrival of the first "scalping" incident. Original post

I think we can all agree that Thanksgiving, today, is a moment where friends and families gather together from near and far. We greet, we meet. There are no pressures of gifting in any kind. It is about as least commercial as our holidays get. THIS is the reason I appreciate this "THANKS-giving" holiday.

I'm Dreaming of a New Christmas...

... where all this commercialism comes to a close!!!

Do you know the best Holiday in the whole year for me? ...THANKSGIVING! It's the only holiday where you don't "have" to buy someone anything except the food, the time to prepare, and the time to be together! Why can't Christmas be just a whole lot more of that?

SCIATICA... Grrr...

So, who knows what's happened here. All I know is that I was bed-ridden for NINE HOURS yesterday. No word of a lie, it took me FIVE MINUTES to get from the door of my bathroom, to the toilet to pee! I couldn't even bend down to put the seat down! I had to ask B to graciously help me.

One of those days...

Well, today has not been a good day. My camera broke. It's horrible. The worst part about it, is this is the third camera in less than four years!! Cameras are not cheap! Both times, before this particular morning, were my fault. Sand, as one incident and a spilled sippy cup in my stroller, the other. I suppose I'll take the blame for this one as well. I had the camera on a shelf. Usually I put it away in a cupboard. The kids love playing with the camera and it wouldn't be rare to let them play with it, under our supervision of course. So, they see a camera, they want it, they go for it...

Confession Day... :(

Today... I used bleach. :( It's a sad day for my home. Sometimes though... just sometimes... dirty, old, stinky toilets that don't flush properly make you do crazy things. :( ...kids peeing all over the floor all hours of the day doesn't help either. Sometimes... not often, but sometimes, natural cleaners can't clean things that need replacement. :(

No more diapers in this home!

One reason for early training... especially if, like me, you've moved too much and haven't kept up with cloth diapering, is that it's better for the environment and better for the future health of my children!

WHY I am against spanking

I think this debate is quite obvious. For some reason, however, many people (even some who I would think should have thought this through a little better), still believe this "spanking" is justified? But, that's just it! I don't think that people are evil. I think that people really are not thinking this through correctly! They are following in the footsteps of the generation before them. Afterall, a lot of us were spanked and we turned out fine!

Pesto of a different kind

I've posted a vegan pesto... or so I thought. I actually didn't "publish" it! LOL
So, I made a new one the other day that I thought was cheaper (pine nuts are over $19.00 a pound!!), just as tasty, and much more rich in Omega's! The avocado makes it creamier.

Walnut-Cilantro Vegan Pesto

1 cup walnuts
1 cup of fresh cilantro
3 cloves of garlic, minced
1/4 avocado, mashed
1 tbsp nutritional yeast
1-2 tbsp water
1/2 tsp sea salt

Place all in food processor to blend. Add water if needed.

Use in pastas, sauces, or dips.

CHRISTian or CHURCHian?

I've decided that it's time we reinvent this term! I am getting really uncomfortable with associating myself with this name, "Christian". Not because I simply don't believe, but because of how the "church" represents this man called, Christ.
